Jan Kath Designer Collection
Jan Kath is one of the most important carpet designers on the international stage. Around the world, more than 1,500 carpet weavers work for his company, while seven employees work in the creative department in Bochum. The collections are marketed by specially selected partners all over the globe. The designs have received many awards (Red Dot Design Award, Carpet Design Award, Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany). Renowned interior designers incorporate them in their work, and they are highly praised in the trade press. This collection of rugs is manufactured in Nepal employing the traditional Tibetan hand knotting rug making techniques in production environments that are certified as being environmentally & socially friendly. The rugs are finished in Switzerland where they benefit from modern technology through a series of washing processes that includes stain protection treatment, the end product is a marriage of the best of “the old” and “the new” technologies. The Jan Kath collections of rugs are finished in three qualities dictated by the knot count, being 60, 80 and 100 knots per square inch. These rugs are undoubtedly the finest contemporary hand knotted rugs available in Ireland. The collections also include some classical designs suitable for period buildings, these tend to be more muted than normal traditional rugs through the careful selection of colour combination and in some cases a mix of wool with silk. The designer responsible for these amazing rugs, Jan Kath, wins awards regularly for the quality and design of his rugs. Undoubtedly these rugs are antiques of the future. Prices are determined by size, knot count, component material and design. As a custom range, Jan’s designs are available in any combination of colour and sizes up to 10m x 10m. There are two distinct Jan Kath collections, “Contemporary” which is based on the use of solid colour and “Gamba” which uses random tonal variation (known as abrash) to give a unique look to the finished rug.
